game jam!
01/29/2025
I have not writen a post in a while now, but for good reason. I have been LOCKED IN with school this term. I am still struggling with programming and visual scripting, but I will get the hang of it at some point. Anyways onto bigger things. This past week I competed in Global Game Jam here in Calgary. We did it through our school, so we got to start a bit early, but typically the Calgary Game Dev Association (CGDA) hosts an event where you get 2 days to complete it.
Game Jam is where a theme gets announced and you have a limited amount of time to create a fully functioning game. For the CGDA they do presentations (which are optional, but highly encouraged) and developers get to show off their hard work. At the end of the presentations, they do a vote based on crowd applause which determines a winning group.
The theme this year was Bubbles which is definetly a choice! It's one of those themes where I feel like it can be interpreted in many different ways, which was very apparent with how my team interpreted it.
I teamed up with 2 of my classmates, Keegan Paxton and Julie Scouras, to create our game Bubbles the Dragon. Bubbles the Dragon is a game about an adorably sassy diva dragon. The game starts off with Bubbles peacefully resting in her cave, when an angry villager raises his sword to attack her. Obviously Bubbles is not pleased that she is being woken from her nap, and so she starts her reign of cleaning and terror.
Bubbles is not an ordinary fire breathing dragon. She instead blows beautiful bubbles which can both clean and cause chaos to the world around her. You get to play as Bubbles and help her destroy the town and villagers before they do the same to her. I had the pleasure of being able to design her and make her really fit the theme of how I wanted her to look. I am very proud of what I came up with and our programmer Keegan did a fantastic job implementing her into the game.
I wanna take another moment to talk about my amazing teammates because the game couldn't have been made without them. Julie was our environmental artist and she did an absolutely phenomenal job at creating the buildings throughout the town, as well as the flooring Bubbles is seen walking on. Keegan handled all of the programming anf level design aspects and I am truly in awe of how he was able to make the game come to life. They both did amazing jobs and deserve lots of recognition.
Y'know how I mentioned that there is a winner of the Game Jam earlier? The winner this year was none other than Bubbles the Dragon. I am so honored to have won especially since this is my first Game Jam. I am so greatful for the opportunities that have already been presented to me and I am just so incredibly proud of my group for what we accomplished. I will put a link to play the game in my profile so you can see it for yourself in action! That's about it for my very lengthy summary of things! See you soon!

first week back n stuffs
01/17/2025
Hi all! As you can maybe tell by the title of this post, it is my first (full) week back to school!!! woooot woooot!!!!
I am coming at u from my programming class, which is surprisingly going pretty well so far. I think I kindaaa?? know what im doing, but this is only my second programming class this term. We are currently working on a silly deckbuilder thingy based off the game Dominion. I don't think anyone in my class knew what that game was before we started this but now we unfortunately do. I tried playing the game with a classmate and it was SO boring and anticlimactic (dissapointing!!!). I hope our deckbuilders will be slightly better than what our 'inspiration' is supposed to be.
OKAY enough about programming! The other classes I have this term are visual scripting, level design and character design.
I was SO excited for character design this week, but then it got CANCELLED. How dare that happen. The one class I have been looking forward to since applying to the program and the first class gets cancelled. Anyways it's not THAT big of a deal,, and I guess I can live with it.. But if it gets cancelled next week I will be very disappointed.
Level design has been okay so far, but we are using Ultimate Doom Builder to make our first levels. I've never used this before and I have no idea what I am doing, but I did come up with a cool concept that I wanna try to flesh out.. As for visual scripting it seems pretty cool, but I get really lost and confused sometimes. Theres a lot to see and my silly brain can't focus on things sometimes. I will get the hang of both classes as the weeks progress, and hopefully I start really liking the stuff we are doing.
okie doki I think that basically wraps up everything to do with classes and stuff this week, and I will have another post soon after Drag Race tonight I believe. See you soon :>

silly games and such
01/10/2025
HELLO! I know this is a bit of a late night post (it's 12:35am) but I feel like yapping about some games I love.
SO! im gunna start off by giving a TW for me being a disgusting sweaty League player (icky ikr) but I promise I have other redeeming qualities!
I know that League gets a bunch of hate but I genuinely love it so much. Not only is the new update, as well as the new cinematic, amazing but the entire game genuinely has so much to offer.
Now u might be thinkink "Cat what is wrong with you!?!?!".. And to answer your question; a lot!. But regardless of all that I think the game has a lot of mechanics that I genuinely enjoy. When I play League I typically fill lanes, which means that I play the position nobody wants to play when I queue. I genuinely enjoy playing whatever position I am given because it gives me the chance to try out different champions and roles!
OK! Enough about League (ick). Let's talk about Tomodachi Life. I recently got into Tomodachi Life after talking to an old friend (who I used to play it with) about it.
Tomodachi Life is such a silly little game, and it has honestly become my comfort game. I think it is so fun taking care of my little Miis, and I have so many stupid looking ones. I play this game EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. without fail and it genuinely makes me so happy. Shoutout Citra Emulator and the creators of Tomodachi Life!!
OK I think that's enough yapping for tonight so I hope you enjoy your evening!

the art of drag
01/04/2025
HIHI! I haven't had much to say the past few days, thus the lack of posts and updates on here. However, I think I finally have enough content locked up in my brain to have a good ol' yap session right now.
2025 has been great so far, with one of the highlights being the release of RuPaul's Drag Race season 17. I am a HUGE fan of drag and anything Drag Race related. I think it is such a beautiful form of expression and I just truly love seeing the looks and concepts people come up with.
The Drag Race franchise spreads out globally, so there are many different versions of the show. Before I started watching the newest season, I had been watching Canadas Drag Race. I am Canadian (if I had not previously mentioned) and I think it is so amazing seeing the drag that people come up with. There are a few queens that are from my hometown, and it is just really empowering seeing them thrive and create these beautiful looks to share with the world.
Canadas Drag Race has been absolutely incredible in representing Indiginous culture through drag. This season has a few Indigenous queens, including one that unfortunately was part of the Sixties Scoop. Jaylene Tyme is her name and I think she needs to have more recognition. I wasn't very familiar with the Sixties Scoop until she had brought it up during a scene. Jaylene tells the other girls that the Sixtees Scoop was a time when many Indigenous children were taken from their homes and were forced to live with predominantly white western familys. These families were instructed to not teach the children anything about their culture in hopes to strip everything from them. Jaylenes vulnerability and openness in expressing what she has been through truly makes her a wonderful person and I think everyone can learn something from her and how her drag represents her culture.
Drag is something that I really would like to get more into. I want to start going to local shows and learn more about the overall culture of drag, because it's something I have been wanting to personally go into for a while now. I think this sums up my little yap sesh,, so I will see you in the near future! Bye Bye :)

hello 2025
01/01/2025
WOW! I cannot believe it's already 2025!!
Going into the new year I took some time to reflect on everything that has happened in 2024 and really acknowledge how far I have came. At the start of the year I didn't really know what I was doing, because I was supposed to be attending the January semester of my program. Things didn't go to plan in 2023, so I wasn't able to move in time for the semester. I did however defer myself to the Fall semester and knew that I had to do a lot to get myself to where I needed to be,, and thats exatly what I did. For the first time in AGES i actually had motivation and a fire lit under my ass and I made a bunch of changes which really got me to where I am today.
While its great to reflect on the good times I also believe it's extremely important to reflect on the hard things aswell. I had (and still do have) a lot of doubt about who I am as a person, and as much as I am proud of what I have done I wish that things didnt have to be as hard as they were at times. But thats life! It's going to throw stuff at you that you wont expect, but you have to just keep going. I know its much easier said than donee, but if I can do it i believe anyone else can! Going into 2025 im going to really work on myself and my education and I really hope to make some amazing things! I have amazing people in my life who are kind and supportive and just want to see me succeed. Their support means the world to me and I am so lucky to be going into 2025 having these people in my life.
ANYWAYSSSS! Sorry for getting all sappy and sentimental, but new years always does that to me. Thank you for taking the time to look at this website and getting to know me and who I am :) See you soon !

narrative writing and other things
12/30/2024
GUYS!! I got pictures working finally!!!
So,, I have been working on my narrative for my game concept a little bit this week and I am quite happy with what I have solidified. I find that I get too caught up in the superficial things like naming my characters or defining set appearances and traits for them before I even have a general plot down. I will say that defining certain characteristics do help me at times, specifically with what I am currently planning out. The main characters appearance plays a HUGE role in the story, especially in terms of introducing the plotline and giving her some depth right off the bat.
Typically when I flesh out characters and ideas, I like to get a general theme down and then zone in on potential interactions or plotlines I want to put more detail into. This project has been something I have been wanting to create for a long time, and I can't wait to share more about it when I feel more confident with how my narrative is looking.
I have lots of ideas to share with you all and I will show some concept art for this project in the near future so stay tuned :))

Guyssssss I (kinda) did it!!! I have a semi-functioning website woot woot! I have to troubleshoot stuff still, because pictures arent working for some odd reason. I just wanna share my art but alas,, the internet has different plans for me.
So a bit of a rundown on everything; I am back home for the winter break which has been very lovely, however I am really missing it back in Calgary. I am SO stoked for our next semester because we have a character design class, and I am a huge fan of creating unique characters. I would probably say it's my favorite thing to work on when i'm drawing. Hopefully in the near future I can figure out the image issue and post some of the characters I have created here. Anyways back to talking about the rest of school.. I was quite unsure about how I was going to handle it at first, however I started to get the hang of things more as time went on. I still need to work on my coding a LOT because I am trying to step out of my comfort zone and MASTER IT. In case the memo wasn't very clear: I STINK at coding. BUT I PASSED THE CLASS GUYS WOOOOOO GO CATTTICUS !!
Anyways I think this probably sums up everything I wanted to say for a first post! I hope you all have a great rest of your day today and I will be back in the near future with post number 2 and (hopefully) working images :-)
